The Kingdom - Wells Cathedral

The Kingdom - Wells Cathedral

On 28th March 2015 I was the mezzo soloist for Wells Cathedral Oratorio Society's The Kingdom Op 51 by Edward Elgar with the Southern Sinfonia conducted by Matthew Owens. It was a great day filled with Elgar's stunning music! The Kingdom was first performed in 1906 at Birmingham Music Festival, following Elgar's compositions of the Dream of Gerontius and The Apostles, and tells the story of lives of Jesus's disciples through the early church, pentecost and the following days.

Peter Auty (Tenor), Jane Irwin (Soprano),  David Kempster (Baritone) Kathryn Rudge (Mezzo)

Wells cathedral, built between 1175 and 1490, was a fantastic setting with its stunning stained glass windows and beautiful arches - which were added in 1338 by William Joy as the weight of the central tower threatened the collapse of the cathedral! A real highlight for me was meeting the Cathedral cat called Louis who was gorgeous!
